BlizzCon 2026 Recap: World of Warcraft Forever, Diablo V, StarCraft's Open-World Shooter, Overwatch's Doctrine & WoW Midnight Eclipse — Every Trailer & Confirmed Detail

🎮 BlizzCon 2026 Just Changed Five Franchises At Once

BlizzCon 2026 Recap: World of Warcraft Forever, Diablo V, StarCraft's Open-World Shooter, Overwatch's Doctrine & WoW Midnight Eclipse — Every Trailer & Confirmed Detail

BlizzCon 2026 returned to the Anaheim Convention Center for the first time since 2023, and Blizzard didn't hold back. Across a single Opening Ceremony the studio confirmed a brand-new "forever" edition of classic WoW, the final content update for WoW: Midnight, a shockingly dark Diablo V, a genre-flipping open-world StarCraft shooter, and Overwatch's next hero. Here's every official trailer and everything confirmed.

🗡️ World of Warcraft: Forever — Classic Reborn, Launching November 4

Blizzard officially put the "Classic+" rumors to rest with World of Warcraft: Forever, a permanent new edition built on the original 1–60 vanilla experience — but expanded with new and overhauled zones (including Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle, and The Riverglades), roughly 1,000 new quests, 9 additional dungeons, new raids, and a brand-new neutral playable race: the Skyborne Elves. New race-and-class combinations never available in 2004 are also unlocked, including Undead Paladins.

The level cap stays at 60, and Blizzard is positioning Forever as a standalone permanent home alongside modern Retail and existing Classic servers, complete with an SD/HD graphics toggle. World of Warcraft: Forever launches November 4, 2026.

🌘 World of Warcraft: Midnight — Patch 12.2 "Eclipse" Sets Up The Last Titan

Eclipse (Patch 12.2) is confirmed as the final major content update for World of Warcraft: Midnight, bringing players face-to-face with Xal'atath inside a new zone, the Mantle Vault, and an eight-boss "Worldcore" raid. The patch also debuts Talebound, a standalone action-RPG roguelite mode with three exclusive classes (Slayer, Inquisitor, Witch), plus three new playable Paladin races (Night Elf, Forsaken, and Darkspear Troll) and a new legendary dagger.

Eclipse sets the stage for the Worldsoul Saga's true finale, The Last Titan, which returns players to Northrend. Blizzard has only confirmed an early 2027 release window for Eclipse; no exact date has been announced yet.

🔥 Diablo V — Sanctuary Has Already Fallen, Coming Spring 2029

For the franchise's 30th anniversary, Blizzard confirmed Diablo V is officially in development — and it flips the series' usual formula. Rather than racing to prevent an apocalypse, Diablo V is set roughly a century after Diablo IV in a Sanctuary that has already fallen: no angels, no heroes, no safe harbors, with Diablo, the Lord of Terror, having already won.

The teaser was deliberately light on gameplay, classes, or platforms, but Blizzard confirmed a Spring 2029 release window. Diablo IV isn't going anywhere in the meantime — an Amazon class pack lands in the first half of 2027, and Diablo IV: Age of Hatred is heading to Nintendo Switch 2.

🦇 Overwatch's New Hero Doctrine Debuts With Season 5

Overwatch's 54th hero is Doctrine, a vampire-inspired Support who manipulates lifeforce through a scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones. His "Breakout" reveal trailer shows Doomfist, Sombra, Reaper, and Widowmaker raiding Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, a supermax prison in Iceland, to free him — closing out the "Reign of Talon" story arc.

Doctrine is already playable via a limited-time Hero Trial, with his full roster debut landing alongside Season 5 on October 6, 2026. The same season brings major Sombra (moving from Damage to Support) and Roadhog reworks, plus the new Watchpoint: Grímsvötn Escort map.

🚀 StarCraft Returns — As an Open-World Shooter, Not an RTS

In the biggest genre shift of the show, Blizzard revealed a brand-new StarCraft game — simply titled "StarCraft" for now — as a story-driven, open-world shooter set roughly 70 years after StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. Former Far Cry lead Dan Hay is heading the project, and the "Dominion" announcement cinematic follows a Marine named Holt training up before a Zergling assault.

No gameplay was shown, and this marks Blizzard's third attempt at pulling the franchise out of pure RTS territory after StarCraft: Ghost and Project Ares were both cancelled. It's confirmed for consoles as well as PC, targeting a Spring 2030 release.

⭐ My Take: 9/10 — most BlizzCon shows lean on one big reveal; this one dropped five. Forever gives lapsed players a real reason to come back, Eclipse closes Midnight properly, and swinging StarCraft into an open-world shooter is the boldest bet Blizzard has made on the IP in years. The only downside is the wait — 2029 and 2030 are a long way off.

📦 Details are based on official Blizzard statements and BlizzCon 2026 presentations (September 12–13, 2026) and may be updated as each game moves through development.
