Fans hoping to see the samurai spirits of Tsushima on screen in 2027 will have to wait another year. Crunchyroll has confirmed that the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime is moving to 2028, and it came with a fresh round of cast and crew announcements.
🎬 What Was Announced
The Delay
Crunchyroll revealed the new schedule during its Showcase panel at New York Comic Con 2026 on October 8. The series was first announced in January 2025 with a 2027 window, and it is now set to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2028. No specific month or date has been given, and no reason for the delay was disclosed.
New Cast Members
Two voice actors joined the project, both in undisclosed roles. Mayumi Saco voiced Tomoe in the original Ghost of Tsushima game, although that does not confirm she will play the same character here. Shinya Fukumatsu is best known as Bomb in One-Punch Man.
Who Is Making It
- Director: Takanobu Mizuno (Star Wars: Visions "The Duel")
- Animation: Kamikaze Douga
- Story composition and script: Gen Urobuchi
- Character design: Takashi Okazaki, creator of Afro Samurai
- New staff: Keiji Inai (music), Yoshikazu Iwanami (sound director), Yasumasa Koyama (sound effects) and Gyousyou Suzuki (title calligraphy)
- Production: HAYATE Inc. with Aniplex and PlayStation Productions, with Sony Music as music partner
What Is It Based On?
The anime adapts Legends, the supernatural co-op multiplayer mode of Sucker Punch's 2020 hit, rather than Jin Sakai's single-player campaign. In the game, four warriors defend Tsushima against oni and other creatures drawn from Japanese folklore. Crunchyroll's official description says the anime follows one of the last remaining samurai as he defends his homeland against the Mongol Empire.
▶ Official Teaser Trailer
Note: this is the official teaser Crunchyroll released in July 2026, before the delay was announced. A new trailer was reportedly screened only for attendees of the New York Comic Con panel and has not been released online.
What This Means for Fans
A year-long slip is disappointing, but the stacked creative team suggests the studio is taking its time with a project that mixes samurai action with Japanese folklore. The plot, episode count and the exact roles of the new cast members are still unannounced, so expect more details closer to launch.
