Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance (2027): Official Trailer, New Monsters, Story & Every Platform Confirmed
Capcom has officially confirmed Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the massive expansion to 2025's Monster Hunter Wilds — Capcom's fastest-selling game ever with over 8 million copies sold in its first three days. Set for a 2027 release, Ascendance brings Master Rank quests, an elder-dragon-filled sky realm, and a full new hunter-action system. Here's the official trailer and everything Capcom has confirmed so far.

"Elder Dragons are coming. Prepare yourselves!" — Capcom's own tagline for the expansion, straight from the reveal trailer.
📋 What's Confirmed So Far
Story: Set several years after Monster Hunter Wilds, the sudden arrival of the colossal Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung devastates the Forbidden Lands, forcing the Expedition Team to build the Madoi Stronghold. That leads to the discovery of the Skybound Eyrie — a new floating realm above Wyveria filled with ancient ruins and unfamiliar wildlife. A matured Nata returns alongside a new companion, Bangard the Wudwud, to investigate mysterious Guardian Monsters and invading Elder Dragons.
New Monsters: Araketa, a pack-hunting Bird Wyvern that controls air currents and commands its group with vocal calls, and Gundoraja, an Elder Dragon capable of manipulating storm clouds — alongside the return of series legend Lao-Shan Lung.
New Gameplay: The headline addition is the Boost Bracer, a Slinger attachment that temporarily supercharges all 14 weapon types with new Boosted Actions. Master Rank quests are also being introduced for the first time in Wilds.
Requirement: A copy of the base Monster Hunter Wilds is required to play Ascendance — this is a paid expansion, not a standalone game.
🎮 Confirmed Platforms & Release Window
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, launching sometime in 2027 — no exact date yet. Capcom has also confirmed it is separately bringing the base Monster Hunter Wilds to Nintendo Switch 2, though whether Ascendance arrives there too hasn't been confirmed.
⭐ My Take: 8.5/10 (on trailer & scope so far) — the Skybound Eyrie looks like the most visually distinct locale the series has done in years, and bringing back Lao-Shan Lung as the inciting threat is a genuinely exciting nod for longtime fans. My only concern is the vague "2027" window with no firm date — expect more details at Tokyo Game Show.
📦 Release date, platforms, and features are based on Capcom's official announcements and may be updated as more details are revealed ahead of the 2027 launch.
